Kim Jaejoong touched viewers with an emotional story about his family on the September 26 episode of KBS2’s variety show New Release Edition Restaurant.

The singer recalled the difficult time when his father was diagnosed with lung cancer a few years ago and had to undergo chemotherapy.

Sharing how serious it was, he admitted, “It was so serious that I thought he might pass away. After the surgery and chemotherapy, he had no appetite and everything tasted bitter.”

His father also remembered those days, saying, “No matter how delicious the food was, I only ate the meals your mother made. She made everything people said was good for me.”

His mother revealed that she personally searched for healthy ingredients, explaining, “I ran around to find foods said to be good for the lungs and cooked them all. During the last CT scan at the hospital, they said everything looked completely normal.”

Kim Jaejoong then emphasized his mother’s devotion, saying, “(My father) went through 2 years of chemotherapy and then ate my mother’s food for 4 years, and he was completely cured.”

Her anti-cancer meals included eggplant, bitter melon, burdock root, mushrooms, dried pollock, ginger, barley sprouts, chives, garlic, and especially lettuce, which she turned into tea, pancakes, wraps, and even extract.

The program also showed her caregiving diary, where she wrote: “My dear husband was diagnosed with lung cancer three years ago. It felt like the sky was falling… After many treatments and chemotherapy, they said he was clean. I was so grateful I cried and thanked the doctor many times. It felt like he was given a new life.”

Reading the diary, Kim Jaejoong couldn’t hold back his emotions and said, “Why does this make me so sad?”

His mother added a heartfelt message: “Now that we’re old and the children have all left, it’s just the two of us. Life doesn’t have much left, so I want to live the rest of it more happily.”
