Actor Jo Jae Yoon has revealed the effort he put into preparing for his role in Bon Appétit, Your Majesty—and the surprising truth about his appearance fee.

In the September 24 episode of TV CHOSUN’s variety show My Way – Over-Immersion Club, Jo Jae Yoon, who has appeared in over 100 works, shared his behind-the-scenes story for the first time.

He is currently receiving praise for his role as Ming Dynasty chef Dang Baek Ryong in the hit drama.

Jo Jae Yoon surprised viewers by confessing, “I had to practice so much, from Chinese language to cooking and martial arts. I spent two months practicing and one and a half months filming, dedicating about three and a half months only to this drama.”

He also showed his detailed “immersion notebook”, filled with Chinese dialogue he had written and memorized, proving his dedication.

When actress Chae Jung An asked if this meant he was paid more, Jo Jae Yoon admitted with a laugh, “Since it was a special appearance, my appearance fee was actually reduced.”

He further revealed that, as a licensed Korean cooking professional, he performed all the cooking scenes himself without using a stand-in. His real cooking skills will also be shown in the upcoming broadcast, raising even more anticipation.

Fans can catch Jo Jae Yoon’s three and a half months of full immersion in Bon Appétit, Your Majesty on My Way – Over-Immersion Club, airing September 24 at 10 PM.
