aespa's Karina has finally spoken up about the political controversy that sparked online backlash earlier this year — and she’s taking full responsibility.
On July 6, Karina appeared on the YouTube show Fairy Jae Hyung, where she sat down for a heartfelt talk with musician Jung Jae Hyung. During their conversation, Karina briefly mentioned the recent issue that caused a stir.
“My dream is just to live peacefully without problems,” she shared. “There was a recent incident… I hope not only me, but everyone around me can live peacefully too.”
Previously, Karina faced criticism over a social media post that unintentionally stirred up political debate. Although her agency quickly explained and apologized, the controversy didn’t die down.
Karina addressed the situation directly, saying, “I had no such intention at all. But when I saw fans getting worried, I felt so sorry. I truly apologize for causing concern to so many people.”
She then explained what led to the post. “I was out with the staff. It was a bit chilly, so I bought something to wear and took a photo to share with fans. But after being contacted about it, I deleted it right away,” she said.
Karina admitted, “I was really ignorant. Even though I was overseas at the time, I should’ve known better. I’ve realized I need to study more and be more aware. It’s true that I just didn’t know.”
She also opened up about how the situation affected her members. “It’s true that I caused the issue, so I should take responsibility. But when the other members were affected too, that really broke my heart.”
Fans praised Karina for her honest and mature response, showing once again that even in tough times, she’s willing to own up, learn, and grow.
