Lim Ji Yeon is taking on another intense transformation — and fans are already buzzing!
On May 29, Lim Ji Yeon turned heads at the 45th Blue Dragon Film Awards red carpet at KBS in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. But the spotlight isn't just for her red carpet appearance — it's for her bold new role in the upcoming SBS drama Wonderful New World.
According to insiders in the broadcast industry on the 17th, Lim Ji Yeon has been cast as the female lead in Wonderful New World, a fantasy romance comedy expected to start filming in the second half of this year and air in early 2026.
Wonderful New World follows a wild “love-hate” romance between a Joseon-era villainess and a cold-hearted modern chaebol named Cha Se Gye. The drama is being directed by Han Tae Seop, known for his work on Stove League and Cheer Up.
Lim Ji Yeon will play Shin Seo Ri, a struggling actress in the modern world who suddenly becomes possessed by the spirit of Hee Bin — a powerful and notorious villain from the Joseon era. Hee Bin, who once shook an entire kingdom and was ultimately sentenced to death by poison, wakes up centuries later in the body of an ordinary actress. Now, armed with a sharp tongue and fierce charisma, she sets out to conquer the 21st century.
Lim Ji Yeon has already proven her acting range with her unforgettable role as the chilling Park Yeon Jin in Netflix’s The Glory. Earlier this year, she also played dual roles in The Tale of Mrs. Ok, impressing viewers by switching seamlessly between a tragic servant and a graceful noblewoman. The drama hit a high rating of 13.6%, showing just how much viewers loved her performance.
After wrapping up her next drama Annoying Love, which will air later this year on tvN, Wonderful New World will be her next big project. In Annoying Love, she stars alongside Lee Jung Jae as a political reporter who ends up on the entertainment news team and falls into an unexpected romance.
Lim Ji Yeon first debuted in the 2011 film Disaster Movie, and since then, she’s built an impressive filmography. From movies like Obsessed, The Treacherous, and Luck-Key, to dramas like High Society and Blow Breeze, she’s shown a wide range of acting skills over the years.
She’s also currently appearing on the variety show Unni’s Remote Market Season 2, showing off her fun, down-to-earth side.
