• 'Squid Game 2' Director Teases New Faces and Exciting Plot, But Confirms the Death of Season 1's Characters

Fans of Squid Game season 1, brace yourselves for the unexpected in season 2, as director Hwang Dong Hyuk has revealed some exciting details about what’s to come!

At a set visit event in Daejeon on December 7, 2023, director Hwang, along with key staff members, gave fans a glimpse into the upcoming season.

He shared that while we’ll see some familiar faces, many beloved characters from season 1, including those played by Jung Ho Yeon and Park Hae Soo, won’t be returning.

Unfortunately, I killed off almost all of the popular characters from season 1,” Hwang admitted, adding that season 2 would bring in a fresh batch of faces, including some younger actors.

New cast members for season 2 include Im Si Wan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Gyu Young, Lee Jin Wook, and many more. Director Hwang explained that season 2 would dive deeper into Gi Hun’s (played by Lee Jung Jae) journey after he chooses not to board a plane in the first season’s finale.

This time, Gi Hun returns to the deadly game for a very specific reason, facing off against new characters and navigating even more dangerous rounds.

Hwang teased that unlike season 1, which focused mainly on Gi Hun and Sang Woo’s childhood friendship, season 2 will explore various personal connections among the contestants.

“There will be more private relationships between participants this time,” he shared, hinting that the new season will have a wider range of characters, with people from different age groups, generations, and backgrounds.

The director also shared his excitement about working with a new group of actors: “Filming has been so much fun with new actors, and the process of developing these characters together has been a learning experience.”

He expressed how enjoyable it has been to see the harmony between both experienced stars and newcomers, and how their new performances have kept him on his toes.

The highly anticipated Squid Game season 2 is set to be released on Netflix on December 26, 2024, in over 190 countries worldwide. Fans are in for a thrilling ride as the game continues with more twists, more danger, and a whole new set of challenges.
