• Nam Yoon Soo Gets Real About Filming Intimate Scenes in 'Love in the Big City': "Every Kiss Felt Natural"

Actor Nam Yoon Soo recently opened up about his experience filming Love in the Big City and the overwhelming support he’s received from the LGBTQ+ community.

On November 1, during an interview in Seoul, Nam shared his thoughts on his role in the TVING drama, which follows the journey of his character Go Young through love, breakups, and personal growth.

Reflecting on the feedback, Nam said, "I’ve never gotten this much response before. Usually, I just move on, but this time I received so many heartfelt messages. I finally get why actors always thank their fans, and it made me want to give back.”

Nam mentioned that fans from the LGBTQ+ community expressed appreciation for his work, with comments like, "It feels like I’m watching myself in my twenties," and, "Thank you for taking on this role.”

Despite knowing it could impact his public image, he explained, "I wasn’t worried about how it might affect my career. I wanted to tell this story without fear."

Nam shared how he landed the role, saying, "The production company approached me first, but with four directors involved, there was always a chance one might not like me. So, we met, and I shared my personal story. I really wanted to do this – it covers ten years of life, and that’s incredibly interesting to me."

The actor explained his approach to the role as his character aged. "In the early twenties scenes, I went for a simple, fresh look. But as my character grows, I tried to show a more polished, professional side."

Asked if he had any concerns due to the novel’s reputation as a queer story, Nam responded, “The emotions felt so real. Whether it’s a same-gender relationship or not, the love, anger, and sadness felt familiar. A kiss is a kiss – I didn’t see it as just ‘two men’ or ‘two women.’ I even told my co-star, ‘A kiss is a kiss, regardless,’ which helped everyone relax.”

Nam Yoon Soo revealed he filmed over 300 kiss scenes for the drama. “I focused on making each moment feel natural. After the first few times, no one asked, ‘How was it?’ We just focused on the best shot," he laughed.

Nam added, “Since I had more scenes, I wanted to lead and make sure everyone felt comfortable. I took the initiative to keep things easy on set.”

With Love in the Big City, Nam Yoon Soo is breaking boundaries and leaving a lasting impression with fans, taking on a role he’s clearly proud to have.
