The creative minds behind this project are director Kim Hee Won and writer Jung Seo Kyung, who previously showcased their remarkable synergy in the 2022 tvN drama 'Little Women'.

Recently, a member of the drama's crew shared a post on their personal social media account. The post included photos of Jun Ji Hyun and Kang Dong Won and announced the commencement of 'The North Star' shooting on March 25th. This has sparked curiosity about the duo's on-screen chemistry.

Jun Ji Hyun and Kang Dong Won, known for their successful streak and global popularity, have already stirred up immense anticipation among viewers worldwide with the announcement of their collaboration.

Adding to the excitement, designer Lee Jung Woo, who happens to be Jun Ji Hyun's mother-in-law, shared a post from an entertainment media outlet on her personal social media last year.

The post read, "The birth of a legendary duo, Jun Ji Hyun X Kang Dong Won unite in a spy melodrama", which garnered even more attention.

She expressed her enthusiasm for 'The North Star' by sharing a cheerful emoticon along with the caption "My favorite duo! Finally".

The main attraction of 'The North Star' is undoubtedly the pairing of Jun Ji Hyun and Kang Dong Won. Interestingly, Kang Dong Won, who has been primarily active in films, is making a comeback to dramas with 'The North Star', almost 20 years after his last drama appearance in SBS's 'Magic' which concluded in 2004.

Jun Ji Hyun, on the other hand, hasn't been involved in any projects since tvN's 'Jirisan' in 2021. Hence, the collaboration with Kang Dong Won is expected to create a synergy greater than any of their previous works.

'The North Star', which has already created a buzz with just the casting news and promises to be a legendary drama, is anticipated to satisfy viewers' curiosity with its future promotions.

  • Lee Jun Young says he felt guilty and cried after acting mean to a grandma in 'Brave Citizen'

Lee Jun Young recently opened up about the emotional toll of playing a villain—and how one powerful scene made him break down in tears behind the scenes.

On the May 1st episode of KBS 2TV’s variety show Problem Child in House, Lee Jun Young appeared alongside co-star Jung Eun Ji to promote their new KBS drama Pump Up the Healthy Love.

During the show, Lee Jun Young was asked about the most unforgettable villain he’s played. He chose his role as Han Su Gang in the film Brave Citizen.

He explained, “It was really tough to film. I had to act like I was leading school violence, and there was even a scene where I bullied a grandmother.”

The hosts were surprised, pointing out how kind and gentle he seems in real life. Lee Jun Young shared how he transforms for such roles.

“I try to act as bad as I can, but sometimes the director says, ‘You still look too nice.’ Then I focus even harder and adjust right away.”

He also revealed that filming one particular scene hit him hard emotionally. “My real grandmother was sick at the time,” he said.

“In one scene, there’s a grandma selling gimbap, and I ad-libbed by stubbing a cigarette out on the gimbap. I was really into character, but after filming, I just broke down. So many thoughts came to me and I started crying.”

Fans praised his dedication to acting but also felt moved by how deeply the role affected him. Lee Jun Young’s honesty gave a raw look at how even fictional roles can hit close to home.
