Interest in Kim Soo Hyun’s long-awaited Disney+ drama Knock-Off is growing again as the actor resumes public activities, but the series still does not have a confirmed release date.
Knock-Off was originally positioned as one of Disney+’s major Korean productions. However, its release was placed on hold amid controversy surrounding allegations about Kim Soo Hyun’s past relationship with late actress Kim Sae Ron.
The situation has since developed further. Korean authorities have taken legal action in connection with allegedly fabricated materials circulated about Kim Soo Hyun, including claims involving manipulated audio.
Because related legal proceedings and disputes have continued, allegations surrounding the actor should not be treated as established facts solely based on earlier online reports.
Kim Soo Hyun has recently begun making public appearances again. He returned to advertising activities in July and appeared as a special guest on Indonesian broadcaster RCTI’s 37th anniversary program Mahakarya RCTI 37 on August 23. He is also scheduled to hold a large fan meeting in the Philippines in October.
The renewed activity has brought fresh attention to Knock-Off, which would mark Kim Soo Hyun’s next major drama project following Queen of Tears.
In Knock-Off, Kim Soo Hyun plays Kim Sung Joon, an ordinary office worker whose life changes during South Korea’s IMF financial crisis. After losing his job, he enters the counterfeit goods business and gradually rises within the industry.
Jo Bo Ah stars opposite him as Song Hye Jung, Kim Sung Joon’s former girlfriend who works as a special judicial police officer investigating counterfeit products. Their opposing positions are expected to create much of the tension at the center of the series.
The drama is directed by Park Hyun Suk, known for Stranger 2, with a screenplay by Han Jung Hoon, whose previous works include Bad Guys and Squad 38.
Despite renewed discussion surrounding Kim Soo Hyun and the project, Disney+ has not announced a new premiere schedule for Knock-Off. For now, the drama remains on hold, leaving viewers waiting for an official decision on when — or whether — it will finally be released.
