KBS2 is preparing to bring one of Korea's most important historical periods to television with its upcoming epic drama Munmu, featuring a powerful cast led by Jang Hyuk, Park Sung Woong, Lee Hyun Wook, and Kim Kang Woo.
On October 27, KBS2 unveiled new character posters featuring the four leading actors, offering a glimpse of the ambitious historical production ahead of its November premiere.
Set during Korea's turbulent Three Kingdoms period, Munmu follows powerful leaders whose decisions, battles, and sacrifices shaped the future of the Korean Peninsula.
The drama will explore the long conflict between the ancient kingdoms of Silla, Goguryeo, and Baekje, focusing on the political struggles, military campaigns, and personal ambitions behind the fight for unification.
Lee Hyun Wook takes on the role of Kim Beop Min, the future King Munmu of Silla, who hopes to protect his people and bring peace to a kingdom threatened by war.
His newly released poster shows him raising a sword with blood on his face, highlighting his determination to defend Silla.
The poster carries the message, "I will protect it. The guardian who protects Silla."
Jang Hyuk transforms into Yeon Gaesomun, the powerful military leader of Goguryeo, whose influence and strength place him at the center of the conflict.
Dressed in elaborate armor, Jang Hyuk displays the commanding presence of a warrior prepared to defend his kingdom.
His character's poster declares, "To conquer Goguryeo, you must overcome me, and no one can overcome me."
Kim Kang Woo portrays Kim Chun Chu, a political leader who faces difficult choices while working toward the unification of the Three Kingdoms.
Unlike the other characters, his poster captures an emotional moment as he witnesses the suffering caused by war.
His message reads, "The dream I, Kim Chun Chu, pursue is the unification of the Three Han."
Meanwhile, Park Sung Woong plays Kim Yu Shin, one of Silla's most respected military commanders.
His character is shown wearing full battle armor, with a tired expression reflecting the harsh realities of war.
His poster includes the powerful line, "Peace will come only when we defeat the enemy or die ourselves."
Together, the four actors will portray leaders whose different beliefs and responsibilities place them at the center of a major historical struggle.
The production team explained that the posters were designed to show the personalities and convictions of the characters beyond their appearances as historical heroes.
They shared, "Through these posters, we wanted to show the true faces of heroes who move forward with their own beliefs during a time of chaos."
The team added, "Please look forward to discovering what awaits these characters at the end of the paths they are willing to risk their lives to follow."
With its large historical setting, major battle sequences, political conflicts, and experienced cast, Munmu aims to deliver an ambitious story about leadership, sacrifice, and the struggle for peace.
Munmu is scheduled to premiere on November 14, 2026, at 9:20 PM KST on KBS2.
