Jeon Do Yeon is drawing strong attention at the Venice International Film Festival, where her performance in Lee Chang Dong’s new film Possible Love has received widespread praise.
The Netflix film, which is competing at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, held its world premiere at Venice’s Sala Grande on September 6 local time.
According to the Possible Love team, the 1,032-seat theater was filled for the screening. The audience reportedly gave the film a seven-minute standing ovation after the end credits, while the movie has also recorded a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score and a 96 Metacritic score.
International outlets have praised Lee Chang Dong’s direction and the film’s emotional depth. IndieWire described Jeon Do Yeon’s work as “a once-in-a-century performance”, recalling her acclaimed role in Lee’s 2007 film Secret Sunshine.
Jeon Do Yeon won the Best Actress award at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival for Secret Sunshine. Attention is now focused on whether she could receive another major festival acting honor for Possible Love in Venice.
Possible Love follows two couples who meet while making a documentary and confront different lives and hidden desires. The film opens in theaters on September 23 and will be released on Netflix on November 6.
