Singer Kwon Eun Bi is starting a new chapter in her career with DEJAVU, her first digital single in about one year and four months.
In a recent interview, Kwon Eun Bi discussed her new song, her move to RBW, and her wish to show more of herself as an artist. DEJAVU is a disco pop track built around rhythmic bass and bright guitar sounds. The song expresses the strange but familiar feeling of being drawn to someone and the excitement that comes with it.
Kwon Eun Bi admitted that she felt both nervous and excited about returning to music. “It is my first comeback in one year and four months, so I feel nervous, excited, and anxious. I worked on the song with a happy heart, and I am looking forward to finally performing it for everyone,” she said.
The biggest change in this release is her sound. Kwon Eun Bi has often been associated with powerful performances and songs that feature high notes, but DEJAVU presents a more relaxed and natural side of her voice.
“It was a song I wanted to do as soon as I heard it, and I was satisfied because I could show my natural side through it,” she explained.
She also said she worked carefully on her vocal style to create a different mood. “People often say that my music has many high notes. I wanted to create a dreamy feeling, so I thought about how I could use a different tone and what kind of image I wanted to show. If people think, ‘This feels different from the Kwon Eun Bi they know,’ I will consider that a success,” she said.
Kwon Eun Bi added that she wanted to prove that a song does not need high notes to be enjoyable. She said fans reacted positively because the concept was different from her previous work, but she is also waiting to see how the general public responds.
The single is also meaningful because it is her first release after joining RBW. Kwon Eun Bi said the agency has provided more support for her music, including opportunities to learn from producer and RBW co CEO Kim Do Hoon and work with the company’s in house producers.
“Because it is a music focused company, I was able to hear different opinions from Kim Do Hoon and learn from them. There are also many internal producers, and I have received more musical support while working with different sessions,” she said.
She took an active role in the release by sharing ideas about the jacket photos, music video, dancers, styling, marketing, and promotional challenges. Kwon Eun Bi said the chance to have sincere discussions about her album and try different ideas was one of the reasons she chose RBW.
Kwon Eun Bi has also been thinking about the “Summer Queen” image she earned through her appearances at Waterbomb and other summer festivals. She said she appreciates the label but does not want it to limit her music.
“It is good to have a label, but I wanted to show more sides of myself instead of being trapped by that image,” she said. “I am not giving up the title. I want to keep it while showing new sides of myself.”
She also acknowledged the pressure that comes with public expectations. “When people ask why I am not releasing a summer album or appearing at Waterbomb, I feel thankful that they are waiting for me, but it can also feel heavy,” she shared.
For her next image, Kwon Eun Bi hopes to be recognized for her voice. “I want people to say that my voice is better than they expected,” she said, adding that she would like to receive descriptions such as “honey voice” or other compliments related to her tone.
She also expressed a strong desire to be known for her music, not only her name. Kwon Eun Bi said she hopes her songs will reach more listeners and that success means creating music people can sing along to.
As a specific goal, she mentioned wanting to return to the digital music rankings. “I have reached around No. 99 or No. 100 before, and I want to enter the rankings again. Even that would feel like a great success,” she said.
Looking ahead, Kwon Eun Bi is preparing for a physical album with more songs and hopes to include more of her personal stories in future releases. She explained that her earlier concepts sometimes made it difficult to share her own experiences, but she is now working on music and recording sessions that better reflect who she is.
With DEJAVU, Kwon Eun Bi is keeping the recognition she earned as the Summer Queen while making room for a more natural, relaxed, and music focused identity.
