NEW’s hit drama 'Descendants of the Sun' is being remade as an Indonesian theatrical film, tentatively titled 'Descendants of the Sun Indonesia'.
The original 2016 drama starred Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo and reached a peak viewership rating of 38.8 percent.
The new film will adapt the original story with Indonesian settings and local cultural elements, while NEW participates in planning and production.
Hanung Bramantyo will direct the 'Descendants of the Sun' film adaptation. The cast includes Reza Rahadian and Dian Sastrowardoyo, two of Indonesia’s leading actors. The director and stars recently introduced the project at the Ideafest creative culture festival.
Filming has finished, and the project is now in post-production. 'Descendants of the Sun Indonesia' is scheduled for release in Indonesia next year, with NEW’s content distribution subsidiary Contents Panda planning its Korean release.
