The new film “HOPE” has reached 1 million moviegoers only three days after its release, setting the fastest record of any movie released in South Korea in 2026.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing system, “HOPE” passed 1 million admissions at noon on July 17.
The film reached the milestone one day faster than “Colony”, which needed four days to attract 1 million viewers.
“HOPE” also held a strong lead at the Korean box office during its first two days in theaters, establishing itself as one of the leading movies of the summer season.
The movie is attracting repeat viewers through premium theater formats, including IMAX, Dolby Cinema, SCREENX, and 4DX. Audience members have responded positively to its original action, unpredictable story development, and detailed production.
Without revealing major spoilers, “HOPE” follows Beom Seok, the manager of an office near Hopo Port in the Demilitarized Zone. After local young people report seeing a tiger, the village is placed on alert and soon faces an unexpected situation.
With its fast start and growing word of mouth, attention is now focused on the film’s next box office milestone.
“HOPE” is currently showing in theaters across South Korea.
