Actress Goo Hye Sun has opened up about the price controversy surrounding the reusable hair rollers she helped develop.
Goo Hye Sun will appear on the July 18 broadcast of MBN’s “Kim Joo Ha’s Day and Night”, where she discusses her experience of entering the business world while continuing to work in several creative fields.
Her eco friendly hair rollers previously attracted attention after selling out and entering duty free stores. However, some people also questioned why the product was priced higher than standard hair rollers.
Goo Hye Sun explained that the product is difficult to manufacture through a regular factory process.
“Our product is somewhat expensive because mass production is difficult,” she said. “Everything is made by hand and must go through four stages of processing.”
She also shared that her background as an artist affected how she initially viewed pricing.
“Before making products, I worked in art, where the price of a piece can be very subjective,” she explained. “I had to move away from that thinking and calculate how much we needed to charge in order to make a profit.”
Goo Hye Sun then admitted that running a business changed her understanding of finances.
“I think I started studying money,” she said. “I realized that I knew nothing about money.”
The actress also responded to past comments claiming that she sometimes makes bold statements before showing results. Goo Hye Sun admitted that she had heard those remarks many times, but explained that speaking about her plans helps her take action.
“I think it is important for me to say things out loud”, she said. “If I do not say them, I probably will not do them. I know myself, and there is a very lazy side to me”.
According to Goo Hye Sun, publicly sharing her goals pushes her to keep her promises and eventually turn her ideas into reality.
When asked about a goal she still hopes to achieve, she gave the unexpected answer, “Controlling my appetite,” making the cast laugh.
“Kim Joo Ha’s Day and Night” airs every Saturday at 9:40 PM.
