MC Mong spoke out in defense of IU after she apologized over the history distortion controversy surrounding MBC’s drama “Perfect Crown”.

On May 20, MC Mong held a live broadcast on his social media account while addressing several allegations against him, including claims related to gambling and personal scandals.

During the broadcast, he denied the accusations and claimed that some media reports were based on false informants.

While expressing his frustration, MC Mong brought up IU’s recent apology. He said, “Recently, an MBC drama was criticized for history distortion, and IU bowed her head. Why should IU bow her head?”

He continued, “The staff who made the history distortion happen do not take responsibility, but IU bows her head. Why?”

MC Mong then added, “Celebrities whose faces are known are the weak ones,” and criticized what he sees as unfair pressure placed on public figures.

“Perfect Crown”, which ended on May 16, recently faced backlash over historical details. Some viewers said the drama included lines and settings that could be seen as showing Korea in a misleading way, leading to criticism before its final episode.

IU, who starred in the drama, previously apologized during a group viewing event with fans. She said, “I really should have done better,” and added, “Since I am someone who receives your love, I will do better”. IU also said she was sorry for her shortcomings and promised, “I will really work harder and do better”.

Byeon Woo Seok also apologized through a handwritten letter. He said he did not think deeply enough about the drama’s historical context and how viewers could receive it, adding, “I sincerely apologize.”

Director Park Joon Hwa also took responsibility, saying, “Without any excuse, I think I have the greatest responsibility as the representative of the production team.”

Writer Yoo Ji Won also apologized, saying there was a lack of careful research and historical verification while creating the fictional modern royal family setting.
