MBC’s Friday Saturday drama “Perfect Crown” has ended with strong ratings, but its post drama promotions are being affected by the ongoing controversy.
Actor Lee Jae Won has canceled his scheduled final interview following the history distortion controversy surrounding the drama. His agency, Studio Yuhu, confirmed the decision on May 18.
The agency said, “We are seriously aware of the current public opinion and situation surrounding the drama.”
It added that holding a personal interview in this situation could be “careful and possibly burdensome” to the entire production and viewers.
Studio Yuhu continued, “The actor is also looking at the situation with a heavy heart as a member of the production.”
The agency explained that after considering the situation, it would be difficult to proceed with the interview and asked for understanding.
Lee Jae Won played Sung Tae Joo, the eldest son of Castle Group and the half brother of Sung Hee Joo, played by IU.
“Perfect Crown” ended on May 16 and recorded its highest rating of 13.8%. However, despite the high viewership, the drama faced repeated criticism during its run, including concerns over historical details and some acting reactions from viewers.
Main cast members IU and Byeon Woo Seok also did not hold final interviews. Lee Jae Won was reportedly the only cast member who had confirmed an interview schedule, but he eventually canceled after the controversy grew further near the finale.
The situation has drawn attention because “Perfect Crown” ended with strong ratings, but its final promotions are now being handled carefully due to the public reaction surrounding the drama.
