WINNER member Song Mino is expected to complete an additional 102 days of military service after his suspended prison sentence for violating South Korea's Military Service Act became final.
According to a Star News report on October 16, the Military Manpower Administration (MMA) is reviewing the procedures required for Song Mino to make up the 102 days he missed during his mandatory public service.
An MMA official explained, "The relevant department is currently reviewing the procedures for his return to service following the finalization of the first trial ruling."
The agency previously stated that once the court's decision became final, Song Mino would be required to complete the same number of days he was found to have missed without authorization.
This means that although Song Mino officially completed his public service on December 23, 2024, he is expected to return and fulfill the remaining 102 days of his military obligation.
On October 1, the Seoul Western District Court sentenced Song Mino to one year in prison, suspended for two years, after finding him guilty of violating the Military Service Act.
The court explained that military service is a basic national duty that must be completed faithfully, including by those assigned to public service positions.
However, the court also considered Song Mino's admission of responsibility, expressions of remorse, and health circumstances when deciding his sentence.
Song Mino did not appeal within the required seven-day period, allowing the ruling against him to become final. However, a former official responsible for supervising his service has reportedly filed an appeal.
The case began after concerns were raised about Song Mino's attendance while serving as a public service worker in Mapo District, Seoul, between March 2023 and December 2024.
According to prosecutors, Song Mino was absent from his assigned workplace without valid authorization for a total of 102 working days.
Public service workers are generally required to serve for 21 months, which includes approximately 430 working days excluding weekends and public holidays. The 102 missed days represented nearly one-fourth of his required working days.
During his final statement in court, Song Mino acknowledged that he had failed to complete his responsibilities properly.
He apologized, saying, "I sincerely apologize to the judge and everyone present. As a young man of South Korea, I failed to faithfully fulfill my national defense duty until the end."
He also discussed his ongoing health treatment but emphasized that his condition should not be used as an excuse for failing to meet his obligations.
Song Mino further expressed his willingness to complete the remaining service, stating, "If I am given the opportunity to serve again, I want to faithfully complete it until the end."
On October 9, the singer also shared a handwritten apology on social media, acknowledging his past decisions and promising to take responsibility.
He wrote, "I will not avoid my mistakes and will reflect on them. I will faithfully carry out the remaining procedures and obligations."
With his court ruling now final, attention has turned to the next steps in the military administration's review.
While the MMA has not yet announced an official date for Song Mino's return, the 102 missed working days are expected to be added back to his service requirement, meaning he must complete them despite having previously been discharged.
The agency is currently reviewing the administrative procedures needed to carry out his remaining military service.
