IU has personally apologized after MBC’s Friday Saturday drama “Perfect Crown” faced criticism over historical details.
On May 18, the singer and actress shared a long message on her personal account. IU, who played Sung Hee Joo in the drama, said she had carefully read the comments and concerns left by viewers over the past few days.
She wrote, “As the lead actress of the drama, I feel very sorry to everyone because I think I failed to show a responsible attitude and caused great disappointment.” IU added that her heart still felt heavy.
IU directly addressed the historical accuracy concerns raised by viewers. She said, “Regarding the many historical accuracy issues in the drama that you pointed out, I reflect on and apologize without excuse for acting without thinking more deeply.”

She also admitted that she should have taken more care because the drama used imagination based on Korean history and traditional beauty.
IU wrote, “I should have read and studied the script more carefully as an actress. I am ashamed of myself for not doing so.”
She continued, “I did not properly recognize the problem in advance. I am sorry.”
IU thanked viewers who watched “Perfect Crown” until the end and shared their opinions. She said she would remember the criticism and promised to approach future projects with a more careful and thorough attitude.
“Perfect Crown” ended on May 16 with its highest nationwide rating of 13.8%. However, the drama also faced criticism during its run, including historical accuracy concerns and viewer reactions to some cast members’ acting.
The controversy grew after episode 11 showed Grand Prince Ian’s coronation scene with details such as the phrase “Cheonse” and a nine bead crown, which some viewers connected to history distortion claims.
