TV CHOSUN’s weekend mini series Doctor Shin is drawing attention for its bold and highly unusual story, but the drama is still struggling to turn that buzz into stronger ratings.
Despite the intense reactions to its shocking plot and Jung Yi Chan’s emotional performance, Doctor Shin has remained in the 1% ratings range for four straight episodes from its premiere through episode 4, leaving the series with disappointing results so far.
The drama has been talked about for its extreme setup, centered around a genius neurosurgeon with near supernatural skill who performs a shocking brain related surgery that completely changes the lives of the people around him.
That unusual concept has made Doctor Shin stand out quickly, but it has also raised questions about whether the material may be too intense or unconventional for a wider audience.
Even so, Jung Yi Chan continues to earn praise for his acting as Shin Joo Shin, especially for his ability to carry heavy emotional scenes with subtle facial expressions, a strong gaze, and a deep, controlled tone.
One of the key moments from the latest episode came when his character exploded in anger and said, “Are you repaying kindness with betrayal?” Another emotional scene also drew attention when he quietly asked, “Momo, did I do the right thing? Do I really have to let you go like this?”
Those scenes helped highlight the emotional weight of the drama and showed why some viewers are still closely watching the series, even as the ratings remain low.
For now, however, the biggest talking point around Doctor Shin remains its disappointing performance in the ratings.
With the drama still stuck in the 1% range across four consecutive episodes, attention is now on whether it can finally find momentum and deliver a rebound in the coming weeks.
Doctor Shin airs every Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 PM KST on TV CHOSUN.
