Singer Jay Park recently spoke about his departure from 2PM, reflecting on the moment 16 years after the incident.
On March 5, the YouTube channel Eyes Magazine released a video titled “The song that changed Jay Park’s life #Psychology of Lyrics.” During the interview, the artist mentioned that U Got It Bad by Usher was one of the songs that changed his life, bringing back memories of the time he left 2PM.
When the host commented that the situation must have been an uncertain period after he returned to the United States, Jay Park explained that he did not feel anxious at the time. Instead, he shared, “I didn’t feel anxious. I only felt sorry and apologetic.” He also added, “I caused inconvenience and harm to many people.”

Back in 2009,Jay Park faced major controversy when a past social media post was interpreted as criticizing South Korea. As public opinion worsened, he announced his departure from 2PM on September 8, 2009, just three days after the issue became widely discussed, and returned to the United States.
In February 2010, JYP Entertainment officially announced that Jay Park would permanently leave the group due to issues related to his private life. At the time, company founder Park Jin Young commented that “if it were something minor, it could have been covered, but it was too big,” while explaining that he struggled between protecting the artist and misleading the public.
Now, 16 years later, Jay Park once again shared that the feeling he remembered most from that time was not fear but his sense of apology toward those affected by the controversy.
After leaving the group, Jay Park continued his career in the United States before returning to South Korea, where he built a successful path as a solo artist and producer. His recent remarks are drawing attention as he rarely speaks publicly about the events surrounding his departure from 2PM.
