Girl group GFRIEND left a strong mark on K pop history with their hit song Rough, which completed the group’s famous school trilogy and confirmed their rise as a top girl group of their generation.
GFRIEND released their third mini album Snowflake on January 25, 2016. The album served as the final chapter of their school trilogy, following “Glass Bead” and “Me Gustas Tu,” and helped solidify the group’s signature “power innocence” image.
At the time, “Rough” showed overwhelming chart power. The song reached No. 1 on the Melon Weekly Chart for the first week of February 2016 and went on to hold the top spot for four consecutive weeks, proving its massive popularity with the general public.

Years later, GFRIEND addressed long standing misunderstandings about their status. After their contracts with Source Music ended in 2021, many assumed the group had disbanded.
However, the members later clarified that this was not true. During their 10th anniversary promotions, GFRIEND appeared on KBS2’s The Seasons – Lee Young Ji’s Rainbow and explained, “Many people thought we broke up because of the word ‘disbandment,’ but we didn’t. It was just a contract expiration.”
The group reunited in January 2025 and met fans again through their 10th anniversary concert “Season of Memories,” proving that GFRIEND’s story was never truly over.
With “Rough” still remembered as a chart topping classic and the school trilogy standing as one of their defining eras, GFRIEND continues to be recognized for both their musical impact and lasting bond as a team.
