Actress Go Youn Jung showed a deeper side of her acting as she spoke honestly about anxiety while discussing her role in the Netflix series Can This Love Be Translated?.
On January 23, Go Youn Jung met with reporters in Jongno gu, Seoul, where she talked about playing both global top star Cha Mu Hee and her inner personality, Do Ra Mi. The actress shared that while the characters may seem very different, their emotions felt surprisingly real to her.
Speaking about Do Ra Mi, who represents Mu Hee’s inner anxiety, Go Youn Jung said she does not see herself as someone with very high anxiety. However, she explained that she strongly related to the idea that happiness and anxiety can exist at the same time.
She shared that people who have achieved a lot may feel more fear about losing what they have, and she felt this was especially true for Mu Hee. “She is someone who feels that emotional gap very strongly,” she said.
Go Youn Jung also revealed that in real life, she is closer to Do Ra Mi than to her confident top star character. She admitted that she gets very nervous at official events and award ceremonies, not because of personal mistakes, but because she worries her actions could affect others. “I think that kind of pressure makes my anxiety rise”, she explained.
Because of this, she said she could understand why Mu Hee feels anxious about making the wrong choices or saying the wrong things. “That part is something I really relate to,” she added, showing how closely connected she felt to the role.
When asked if she feels pressure about the drama’s success, Go Youn Jung answered calmly. She said that rather than focusing on numbers or results, she hopes viewers can feel the intention and emotions that she and the cast worked hard to express. “Since I enjoyed making it, I hope viewers also enjoy watching it,” she said.
Can This Love Be Translated? was released on Netflix on January 16 and continues to draw attention for Go Youn Jung’s emotional performance and honest portrayal of inner anxiety.
