Sibling duo AKMU has shared updates on their new journey as independent artists.

On January 7, AKMU’s Lee Chan Hyuk revealed, “AKMU is preparing for a new start and has been doing intense training since January 1,” signaling the duo’s plans for a future comeback.

This comes after YG officially announced on December 21, 2025, that their contract with AKMU had ended.

YG also shared that Chief Producer Yang Hyun Seok visited Lee Chan Hyuk and Lee Su Hyun at home several months ago to have dinner and reflect on their 12 years together since meeting on SBS’s audition show K pop Star Season 2 in 2012.

During the visit, the duo discussed their next steps, including whether to continue with YG or take on a new challenge independently. Chief Yang encouraged them to explore music in a new environment while offering continued support behind the scenes.

Following the news, Lee Su Hyun expressed her gratitude, saying, “We sincerely thank all the YG staff who have worked with us for 12 years and always trusted and respected us. The YG family was my pride, and it made me truly happy. We are leaving for a new journey, but we will never forget it like a home in our hearts. Thank you so much. I hope everyone stays healthy and happy. Goodbye!”

Lee Chan Hyuk also thanked YG, writing, “Goodbye, YG (2013–2025). Thank you for everything and for raising us.”

AKMU debuted under YG in 2014 with the hit “200%” after winning K pop Star Season 2 in 2012 and has since released numerous hits including “Long Day Long Night,” “How Can I Love the Heartbreak, You’re the One I Love,” and “Nakka.”

Their latest updates suggest that the duo is preparing for a new chapter in their career as independent artists.
