MBC is finally making a big push to take back its reputation as a “drama kingdom,” and the network is putting its biggest bet on IU and Byeon Woo Seok.
After several years of low ratings and little buzz, MBC is hoping its 2026 lineup will turn everything around. The network revealed a new set of dramas, and fans are already talking about the star power and ambitious concepts coming next year.
The most talked-about project is 21st Century Prince's Wife, starring IU and Byeon Woo Seok. This drama is being called MBC’s strongest card, combining elements like a chaebol family, a modern monarchy setting, and a classic status-difference story.
It’s directed by Park Joon Hwa and based on a contest-winning script, making it one of the most carefully planned projects in the lineup. Many expect it to draw huge attention both in Korea and overseas.
MBC is also trying to boost interest with other titles. Ji Sung and Park Hee Soon team up for Judge Lee Han Young, a mix of time-return and courtroom drama that will kick off the new year. Meanwhile, In Your Brilliant Season brings a soft romance led by Lee Sung Kyung and Chae Jong Hyeop.
To widen its audience, MBC is adding more variety with shows like the action comedy Fifties Professionals, the everyday-life plus action mix Married Woman Killer, the psychological drama Liar, and the sports youth story Your Ground.
An MBC official shared, “We selected the 2026 lineup to bring viewers the best dramas in many different genres,” adding that the network aims to match the reputation it once had with strong casts and skilled directors.
For MBC, 2026 is more than just a new year—it’s a chance to rebuild its name and win back viewers after a long slump.
All eyes are now on whether their biggest gamble, led by IU and Byeon Woo Seok, can bring the network back to the top.
