Netflix’s popular animation KPop Demon Hunters is making headlines again after officially qualifying for a nomination at the upcoming 98th Academy Awards.
On November 21, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) released its official list, and KPop Demon Hunters was chosen as one of the 35 films eligible for the Best Animated Feature category.
The movie qualified even though it was released on an OTT platform, thanks to its special theater screenings last June in major U.S. cities like New York and Los Angeles.
Because the film became a massive global trend this year, many industry sources believe it has a strong chance of getting nominated not only for Best Animated Feature but also for Best Original Song.
The soundtrack gained huge attention, especially Huntrix’s “Golden” and Saja Boys’ “Soda Pop,” which both climbed the Billboard charts and became fan favorites.
The 98th Academy Awards will take place on March 15 next year, and fans are now watching closely to see if KPop Demon Hunters can make history.
