Actor Lee Byung Hun has received one of Korea’s highest cultural honors — the Bogwan Order of Cultural Merit — for his outstanding contributions to the country’s film and entertainment industry.
On October 23, during the 2025 Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards held at the National Theater of Korea in Seoul, Lee was among the few recognized for their influence and achievements in shaping modern Korean culture.
Having debuted in 1991, Lee Byung Hun has built an impressive career spanning over three decades. He gained worldwide praise through acclaimed projects such as Inside Men, The Man Standing Next, and Concrete Utopia, as well as international hits like Squid Game, Mr. Sunshine, and Our Blues.
Despite his long list of achievements, Lee stayed humble as he spoke about receiving the honor. “I’ve received awards at film festivals before, but getting a medal like this feels very different,” he said.
“I didn’t start acting with a grand sense of duty — I just loved movies and what I do. That’s why this honor feels a bit too big and even makes me feel shy.”
Lee also shared his pride in representing Korea around the world. “This year, I met many audiences and fans overseas and really felt how amazing K-content has become. As a Korean and as someone working in popular arts, I felt so proud. I’ll take this medal as motivation to work even harder so Korean culture can shine even more globally.”
Meanwhile, Lee Byung Hun continues to receive attention for his new film No Other Choice, where he portrays a father struggling to protect his family after losing his job.
His performance has earned him a Best Actor nomination at the 46th Blue Dragon Film Awards and more recognition on the international stage.
Lee Byung Hun proves once again that his talent and humility continue to set him apart as one of Korea’s most respected actors.
