Singer Ailee has shared the unexpected reason she and her husband, Single’s Inferno alum Choi Si Hoon, registered their marriage months before walking down the aisle.
On the August 12 episode of SBS’s variety show Dolsing Fourmen, Ailee appeared alongside Kim Jang Hoon, Yoon Jung Soo, and YouTuber Kim Ji Yoo.
Talking about her first meeting with Choi Si Hoon, Ailee admitted, “At that time, I didn’t like my husband. My ideal type was very clear — someone like singer Kim Jong Kook.”
Even though he wasn’t her type at first, she began to warm up to him when he offered to let her use the lounge bar he runs for free. “At first, I said I wouldn’t date. I’m at an age where if it’s not with marriage in mind, I don’t want to date,” she explained.
The couple moved in together before officially tying the knot. “Early in our relationship, we actually booked a wedding hall and started planning the wedding. I thought, if we date, live together, and it doesn’t work out, we can just cancel the wedding hall. I didn’t think that was embarrassing,” she said.
Ailee then revealed the reason for registering their marriage early, saying, “We registered our marriage in August last year. We did it early so that the house could be in both of our names.”
She also shared a lighthearted memory from their dating days, recalling how she once found a birthday card from Choi Si Hoon’s ex-girlfriend in his car. “A few months into dating, I was helping him look for something in the console box and found a birthday card written by his ex. I read it out loud right there,” she laughed. “Later, he caught me trying to shred an album covered with pictures of my ex-boyfriend.”
Ailee and Choi Si Hoon officially registered their marriage in August 2023 and held their wedding ceremony on April 20, 2024.
