Actor Jung Il Woo recently caught attention not just for his acting, but for revealing his unexpected family background and emotional life journey.
On the upcoming August 7 episode of KBS2's Problem Child in House, Jung Il Woo will appear alongside fellow actor Lee Tae Ran, and during the episode, he opens up about several personal stories — including his past, his health, and his powerful family background.
One highlight from the show is when Jung Il Woo reveals that both of his parents are professors. His mother is a university professor and even serves as the director of a traditional textiles research center.
She is one of only seven members of Korea's Cultural Heritage Administration who evaluate holders of national intangible cultural assets — a rare and important role.
But that’s not all — his father is also a professor, and the two met back in their college days when they were both student council presidents. Jung Il Woo proudly shared, “My mom and dad met as a campus couple.”
He also mentioned that he is a descendant of Jung Yak Yong, a highly respected scholar in Korean history, which adds even more to his impressive family story.
Aside from his family, Jung Il Woo also shared why he decided to walk the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage — not once, but three times. At the age of 27, he was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm, a life-threatening condition.
He revealed that after the diagnosis, he locked himself inside his house for a month, struggling to deal with the news. Eventually, he made a bold choice to walk the famous pilgrimage route across Spain.
“It helped me find happiness again,” he said. He even broke down in tears during a special mass for pilgrims at the end of his journey.
During the show, he also talked about a group blind date he went to during college. It was a 6-on-6 meeting with students from another school — and while everyone else ended up pairing up, only he and one woman remained single.
Surprisingly, the two became friends and have stayed close ever since. That woman is now a well-known actress, and Jung Il Woo reveals her real name on the show, shocking the cast.
