Lee Byung Hun and Son Ye Jin’s upcoming movie No Other Choice has officially been invited to compete at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, one of the most prestigious film events in the world.
Directed by Park Chan Wook, No Other Choice marks the first Korean film in 13 years to be selected for the main competition at Venice, following Pietà in 2012. The festival will take place from August 27 to September 6 in Venice, Italy.
The film follows the story of Mansu (played by Lee Byung Hun), a man living a quiet, stable life—until he’s suddenly fired from his job. Struggling to protect his wife and two children, he’s forced into a tough personal journey to keep everything from falling apart.

This is Park Chan Wook’s third time being recognized at Venice, following his earlier works Three… Extremes and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. In the past, his films have received strong praise at the festival. Sympathy for Lady Vengeance even won awards including Best Innovated Film and Cinema Of The Future.
Speaking about the selection, Park Chan Wook shared, “Now that the film is complete and invited to Venice, I’m glad I didn’t give up on this work over the years.”
Actor Lee Byung Hun, who previously worked with the director in Joint Security Area and Three… Extremes, said, “I’m so looking forward to seeing No Other Choice myself, so it’s a joy and honor to bring such a great film to Venice.”
This is Son Ye Jin’s first time working with Park Chan Wook and Lee Byung Hun in a film, and her first appearance at an international film festival. She expressed her excitement, saying, “It’s incredibly moving and an honor that my first international film festival is Venice. I’m thrilled to attend—it feels like a dream.”
No Other Choice will be released in theaters this September, and fans are already looking forward to the emotional story and strong performances.
