Project Y, starring Han So Hee and Jeon Jong Seo, is heading to one of the biggest stages in global cinema!
On July 21, it was officially announced that Project Y has been invited to the Special Presentations section of the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it will have its world premiere.
The film will be screened sometime between September 4 and 14, and it’s already gaining buzz as one of the most anticipated Korean films of the year.

Project Y tells the gritty, intense story of two women, Mi Seon and Do Kyung, who are desperate to escape their painful lives. With nothing left to lose, they come up with a dangerous plan to steal hidden black money and gold bars — setting off a wild and emotional journey.
TIFF is the largest film festival in North America and one of the “Big 4” film festivals in the world, alongside Cannes, Venice, and Berlin. Its Special Presentations section features works by top directors and stars. Past Korean films featured include Bong Joon Ho’s Mother and Parasite, Park Chan Wook’s The Handmaiden and Decision to Leave, and Kim Jee Woon’s The Age of Shadows.
Last year, Korean films like The Hill of Secrets, Veteran 2, and Harbin were invited to TIFF and received a warm global reception.
TIFF’s lead programmer Giovanna Fulvi shared why Project Y stood out:
“Han So Hee and Jeon Jong Seo create a powerful pull. The film blends adrenaline-pumping action, painful childhood memories, and a fierce fight for survival. It’s packed with tension and raw emotion.”
“Centered on a bold plan, Project Y is one of the most anticipated Korean films of the year.”
Directed by Lee Hwan, known for raw and emotional films like Young Adult Matters and Park Hwa Young, Project Y is backed by Climax Studio and global production company WOWPOINT.
Fans are especially excited to see Han So Hee and Jeon Jong Seo’s powerful on-screen chemistry and dramatic transformation in this high-stakes, action-heavy film.
Project Y will hit theaters in South Korea after its premiere at TIFF — and it’s already shaping up to be a must-watch.
