Kim Jae Joong opened up honestly about his thoughts on love, marriage, and why he’s decided to let go of the pressure at age 39.
On June 10, a new video titled “Kim Jae Joong’s recent update” was posted on the Life84 YouTube channel, where he met up with Gian 84 and had a heart-to-heart conversation.
During the chat, Gian 84 brought up Kim Jae Joong’s recent appearance on the variety show Stars’ Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant and praised him, saying, “You built a house for your parents. I think you’d be in Korea’s top ten most devoted sons.”
Kim Jae Joong replied with a smile but admitted, “There’s a certain pressure. I have eight older sisters, and my parents really want me to get married.” He added, “The stress I get from them isn’t the kind I can fix easily. They say things like, ‘Don’t you have a brother?’ or ‘Why don’t you just get married already?’”
Gian 84 related to the struggle, saying, “Fighting with your mom gives you a different kind of stress. It’s hard.”
Jae Joong then got real about why he’s not chasing marriage anymore: “If I set marriage as my goal and keep pouring energy into it, even this year, next year, or the year after… I just feel like it’s not the kind of energy I want to spend.”
When Gian 84 asked, “So you’re not thinking about marriage at all right now?” Kim Jae Joong answered honestly, “No, not at all. And I can say this freely because this is a channel my parents definitely won’t see.” The two laughed, but Jae Joong added, “Although, they might end up watching.”
He also shared a story about a recent chat with some celebrity friends. “One of them said, ‘If you really wanted to get married, you probably could right away,’” he recalled. Gian 84 agreed, saying it means he’s capable and attractive enough.
But Kim Jae Joong explained it’s not that simple. “When I try to ask someone out, like, ‘How about we meet tomorrow?’ they’ll say, ‘Sorry, I’ve got a schedule.’ Then I get busy too. If I keep saying I can’t meet someone because of work, there’s no way to start a relationship.”
He ended on a light note, joking, “I guess I’ll just have to quit my job,” making them both burst into laughter.
Kim Jae Joong's honest words show how hard it can be to balance a busy celebrity life with personal dreams like marriage—and how sometimes, it's okay to just let things happen naturally.
