Director Hwang Dong Hyuk has confirmed there won’t be a Squid Game Season 4 — but a spin-off might still be on the table!
On June 9, during the production press conference for Squid Game 3 held at Seoul Dragon City in Yongsan-gu, the director sat down with the press and opened up about the future of the global Netflix hit.
When asked about the possibility of Season 4, Hwang made it clear, saying, “There are no plans to make Season 4. I already discussed this with Netflix before moving forward.”
He explained that although fans might feel like another season could happen after watching Season 3, “You’ll probably think it doesn’t really need to be made.”
But there’s still hope for fans wanting more from the Squid Game universe. Hwang added, “If someone asks whether I’ll absolutely never return to Squid Game, that’s not the case. I’m currently preparing another project. If there’s a chance, I do have thoughts about a spin-off.”
He continued, “While working on the series, I got curious about some parts of the story, so I’m considering making something around that.”
So while Season 4 might be off the table, it looks like Squid Game fans could still see more of the story come to life through a new spin-off. Stay tuned!
