• Lee Jong Suk says he’s working hard this year with new dramas and IU gives a sweet update about their busy schedules

Lee Jong Suk is back in the spotlight with two new big projects—and he’s not slowing down anytime soon!

In a new magazine interview, Lee Jong Suk opened up about his upcoming drama Seocho dong, his next challenge The Remarried Empress, and how 2025 is a meaningful year for him. The actor, known for his charming roles and deep characters, also appeared on the covers of Korean and Japanese magazines, showing his global popularity.

Talking about Seocho dong, his first drama in 3 years since Big Mouth, Lee Jong Suk said, “This is the first time I play a character who wears glasses. I searched carefully to find the right pair, and I even used them for this photo shoot!” He added that this drama is different from his past legal roles.

“In Big Mouth, being a lawyer wasn’t the focus. But this time, I really take on the role. Though, there aren't dramatic courtroom scenes—it’s more about daily life and human relationships.”

He also talked about his character, Ahn Joo Hyung. “He didn’t become a lawyer because of some big emotional reason. That makes him feel real and unique.”

Lee Jong Suk also shared how much he enjoyed working with his castmates—Moon Ga Young, Kang Yoo Seok, Ryu Hye Young, and Lim Sung Jae. “More than discovering something inside me, I gained four great actors through this drama. We connected so naturally. Even just sitting and eating together was fun. That helped us act better as a team.”

As someone born in the Year of the Snake, Lee Jong Suk feels like 2025 will be special. “This year is the Year of the Snake like me, so I had a feeling good things would happen. I wanted to rest more, but I knew fans were waiting. So I made plans and decided to work hard. I’m trying genres and stories I haven’t done before. Even though they’re hard, they feel meaningful.”

One of those projects is the live-action adaptation of the hit webtoon The Remarried Empress. “It’s such a famous webtoon, so it’s a big challenge. But that also makes it exciting. I’ll study the original and follow the director closely.”

Meanwhile, his girlfriend IU also gave fans a little peek into their relationship. In a recent interview for her drama When Life Gives You Tangerines, she was asked about Lee Jong Suk. She said sweetly, “I’m still busy promoting Gwan Shik until today, and he’s also busy, so I don’t think he’s seen it yet.”

Fans love seeing both IU and Lee Jong Suk doing so well in their careers—and even when they’re busy, their quiet support for each other melts hearts.

  • 'Weak Hero 2' takes over Netflix and sends webtoon sales skyrocketing 20 times

The hit drama Weak Hero 2 is taking over both streaming charts and fans’ hearts—and now it’s bringing massive attention back to the original Naver webtoon Weak Hero.

According to Netflix's Tudum Top 10 update on April 30, Weak Hero 2 pulled in a huge 6.1 million views (based on total watch time divided by full runtime) just three days after its release. It grabbed the #1 spot on the Global TOP 10 Non-English TV Series chart.

That’s not all—right after it dropped, the drama soared to the top of Korea’s TOP 10 Series and even made the TOP 10 charts in 63 countries, including Brazil, France, Mexico, Belgium, Morocco, Greece, Indonesia, and more.

This follows the success of Weak Hero 1, which previously ranked #8 and stayed on the global chart for five weeks straight.

With all eyes on the new season, fans are now rushing to read the original webtoon, leading to a massive jump in popularity.

The webtoon, which first started in May 2018 and wrapped up in November 2023, is famous for its intense storytelling and emotional depth.

It tells the story of Yeon Si Eun, a quiet and seemingly weak student who turns into a top fighter at a violent school—giving fans a unique and gripping coming-of-age story.

After Weak Hero Class 2 aired, many viewers started reading or re-reading the webtoon from beginning to end. As a result, sales of the webtoon have shot up more than 20 times compared to its average monthly sales after completion.

The series has also been turned into printed books, a mobile game, and even emojis, and has been exported to 9 countries, including North America.

When the first season of the drama premiered on Wavve in 2022, it held 45% of the platform’s total viewing share, proving its wide appeal.

Fans are now hoping for a new sequel season of the webtoon, and the franchise is being praised as a perfect example of how a strong original story can keep growing through great adaptations.
