NewJeans’ Choreographers Speak Out Against ILLIT’s Alleged Dance Moves Copycat Controversy

The drama between HYBE and ADOR continues to unfold, with NewJeans caught in the crossfire. The main bone of contention? Accusations that ILLIT has been copying NewJeans.

Since their debut, ILLIT has often been compared to NewJeans, with some even mistaking them for members of NewJeans. Online communities are buzzing with debates over whether ILLIT is imitating NewJeans.

NewJeans’ choreographers have had enough and are speaking out against HYBE, criticizing ILLIT for allegedly plagiarizing NewJeans’ dance routine for a commercial.

Performance director Kim Eun Ju took to Instagram to voice her frustration, saying, “Oh? Really? Even the choreography for the ads? I’ve been holding it in for so long… Can we call this a coincidence? Sure, there can be similarities! But usually, when people take reference, they at least modify it a bit out of courtesy. But this is just straight-up copying.”

Another choreographer who worked with NewJeans, BLACK.Q, also expressed his dissatisfaction with ILLIT’s latest release, “Lucky Girl Syndrome.” He shared on his Instagram story, “Ah, no way… I’ve been holding back with thoughts like “No way, no way” all this time, but to go as far as copying the choreography for the ads… It’s just unbelievable. The process that led to someone’s hard work being so blatantly appropriated couldn’t have been easy at all…”

The choreographers’ outburst comes after repeated accusations of ILLIT copying the dance moves from NewJeans’ tracks “Cookie,” “Hype Boy,” and “Super Shy.” \
