• Reasons Why Cha Eun Woo's Current Drama Fails: Bad Acting or Flawed Broadcasting Strategy

Why is the webtoon-based drama “A Good Day To Be A Dog” a flop despite having an actor with a webtoon visual? Cha Eun Woo is starring in the webtoon-based drama “A Good Day To Be A Dog” as the male lead Jin Seo-won, a handsome and calm man who is afraid of dogs due to a trauma in his childhood.

Meeting fellow teacher Han Hae-na (Park Gyu-young), Jin Seo-won gets involved in a series of unexpected situations and forms a romance.

Despite casting an actor with a webtoon-like visual like Cha Eun Woo, the drama still failed to create immersion and captivate viewers. What are the reasons? Cha Eun Woo, who has clear facial features, beautiful skin, and superior body proportion, was complimented for his perfect synchronization with the male protagonist in the webtoon.

However, Cha Eun Woo only satisfies viewers in terms of appearance. His speeches, facial expressions, and tension when acting as Jin Seo-won were not comparable to his outstanding visual.

Due to his boring acting, many viewers said they felt like seeing a 2D character in a webtoon. Cha Eun Woo’s poor acting can be seen more clearly in scenes where he acted alongside Park Gyu-young and Lee Hyun-woo (as Lee Bo-gyeom).

Cha Eun Woo has been acting for more than five years but the controversy over his acting skills that arose ever since his first acting project continues until now. Is the fantasy theme an obstacle? Since Cha Eun Woo has appeared in several webtoon-based dramas, such as “Gangnam Beauty” and “True Beauty”, it is hard to blame the genre for the actor’s shortcomings.

Apart from Cha Eun Woo’s failure to portray the character, some viewers also pointed out the unusual broadcasting schedule of “A Good Day To Be A Dog”. With 14 episodes, this drama airs only one episode per week on Wednesday.

Airing the first episode in October 2023, it is expected to end in January 2024. Viewers need to wait for 4 months to see all 14 episodes. In fact, this choice goes against the current trend of viewers enjoying series with rapid developments.

Maybe that’s why “A Good Day To Be A Dog” viewership recently fell to the 1% range and doesn’t seem to recover.

With 10 episodes ahead, will “A Good Day To Be A Dog” be able to make a breakthrough with new developments to satisfy webtoon fans, drama fans, and Cha Eun Woo’s fans?

Lee Jun Young recently opened up about the emotional toll of playing a villain—and how one powerful scene made him break down in tears behind the scenes.

On the May 1st episode of KBS 2TV’s variety show Problem Child in House, Lee Jun Young appeared alongside co-star Jung Eun Ji to promote their new KBS drama Pump Up the Healthy Love.

During the show, Lee Jun Young was asked about the most unforgettable villain he’s played. He chose his role as Han Su Gang in the film Brave Citizen.

He explained, “It was really tough to film. I had to act like I was leading school violence, and there was even a scene where I bullied a grandmother.”

The hosts were surprised, pointing out how kind and gentle he seems in real life. Lee Jun Young shared how he transforms for such roles.

“I try to act as bad as I can, but sometimes the director says, ‘You still look too nice.’ Then I focus even harder and adjust right away.”

He also revealed that filming one particular scene hit him hard emotionally. “My real grandmother was sick at the time,” he said.

“In one scene, there’s a grandma selling gimbap, and I ad-libbed by stubbing a cigarette out on the gimbap. I was really into character, but after filming, I just broke down. So many thoughts came to me and I started crying.”
