• Netizens argue fiercely about whether BLACKPINK Jennie and Lisa are good rappers

BLACKPINK's Lisa and Jennie has become a hot topic because of their rapping skills.

On October 1, a post about Lisa and Jennie began trending on Nate's community board under the title, "HOW GOOD ARE JENNIE AND LISA AT RAPPING?".

The netizen who wrote the post stated, "In the YouTube shorts, they say that Jennie-Lisa are the best female idol rappers, but isn't Jeon So-yeon, who writes her own rap, way better? People praise them for their English because they always rap in English, but I think Jeon So-yeon raps better in Korean than they do. Isn't she better than those rap artists who don't write their own parts?".

The netizen added, "No, but when it comes to YG having good rappers, I can admit that GD, Bobby, Mino, and CL are all good because they write their own raps. But whenever BLACKPINK comes up, I'm just confused".

We all know that the rapper is just as important to a Kpop idol group as the main singer or main dancer.

But, unlike the other two positions, the person in an idol group who is in charge of the rap parts is rarely seen as a real rapper, even if he or she can perform well and rap with the right flow and rhythm.

The opinions in the topic about Soyeon's talent are, of course, true. But they aren't the only idols who can be called real rappers.

Many other Netizens have also said what they think, such as:

This time, during Pink Venom, they messed it up with this Boom Bap duo. Even more surprising is that people still think this way.

Isn't it true, to be honest, that they are good? I don't skip over the rap in any of BLACKPINK's songs. Jennie and Lisa are f*cking good in their own way, and they speak English well, so their rap sounds even better and doesn't make you cringe. Since they are idols, all they need to do is be as good as other idols. Why do people compare BLACKPINK to these foreign rappers to make fun of him? If you like foreign rappers so much, you should just show them how much you like them. Why do they bring them in just to make our singers look bad? Your feelings of inferiority are driving you crazy.

I wouldn't think idol raps were good if I didn't know that they were written by the idols themselves. Even if they can't freestyle, they should at least be able to make their own raps when given a beat. But there are already a lot of female idols who don't do that, so I don't know where we should set the bar. On the other hand, it's not like there aren't any female idols who write their own rap, so?? Just among the people I know, there are LE, Jeon So-yeon, CL, Mimi, Yeji (Fiestar), Miryo, etc. there are many. So it's not clear why only female idols should be judged by a different set of rules… Do you agree that these two are the best female rap idols who don't write their own songs? Anyway, they make good use of what they have.

If you're going to pick on them like this, most idols don't even write or compose their own songs; they just sing songs that are given to them. So why are you only doing this to BLACKPINK? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ You guys are so picky about them because they are BLACKPINK. On Pann, being at the top is a sin.

I think their equipment is good. Since they naturally speak English, when they rap in English, they sound much more natural than the average Korean person. But when people look at rap, they usually look at the lyrics, flow, and skills as a whole. Since there is no set standard, it's impossible to judge them because there is no way to compare them. Anyway, producers are the ones who help BLACKPINK learn how to rap. So, you can't compare them to Jeon So-yeon right away. Since they've never written their own raps, they don't know that, unlike singing, the first step in rap is being able to write your own lyrics.

What are your thoughts about the post?

  • Lee Jun Young says he felt guilty and cried after acting mean to a grandma in 'Brave Citizen'

Lee Jun Young recently opened up about the emotional toll of playing a villain—and how one powerful scene made him break down in tears behind the scenes.

On the May 1st episode of KBS 2TV’s variety show Problem Child in House, Lee Jun Young appeared alongside co-star Jung Eun Ji to promote their new KBS drama Pump Up the Healthy Love.

During the show, Lee Jun Young was asked about the most unforgettable villain he’s played. He chose his role as Han Su Gang in the film Brave Citizen.

He explained, “It was really tough to film. I had to act like I was leading school violence, and there was even a scene where I bullied a grandmother.”

The hosts were surprised, pointing out how kind and gentle he seems in real life. Lee Jun Young shared how he transforms for such roles.

“I try to act as bad as I can, but sometimes the director says, ‘You still look too nice.’ Then I focus even harder and adjust right away.”

He also revealed that filming one particular scene hit him hard emotionally. “My real grandmother was sick at the time,” he said.

“In one scene, there’s a grandma selling gimbap, and I ad-libbed by stubbing a cigarette out on the gimbap. I was really into character, but after filming, I just broke down. So many thoughts came to me and I started crying.”

Fans praised his dedication to acting but also felt moved by how deeply the role affected him. Lee Jun Young’s honesty gave a raw look at how even fictional roles can hit close to home.
