Actor Yoon Kyun Sang is finally returning to television after four years, taking on a powerful new role in JTBC's upcoming historical drama Sacred Jewel.
The actor will star as Wang Mu in the new weekend series, which is scheduled to premiere on December 5, 2026. The project marks his first regular television drama appearance in four years, excluding special appearances.
Ahead of the premiere, JTBC unveiled new stills showing Yoon Kyun Sang's dramatic transformation into a commanding military officer from the Goryeo Dynasty.
Known for his impressive height of 191 cm, Yoon Kyun Sang shows a completely different look with long hair, a beard, traditional armor, and military clothing.
His serious expression and commanding presence highlight the strength of Wang Mu, a military official responsible for protecting Wonju Fortress.
In the drama, Wang Mu is a descendant of a founding contributor to the Goryeo Dynasty and a distant member of the royal family. However, political pressure from the military government prevents him from establishing a position in the capital, forcing him to serve in border regions.
Despite his strong appearance, the character also has an emotional side.
Wang Mu is the first love of Wang Hee, played by Soo Hyun. The two once shared a romantic relationship but were unable to stay together, leaving behind painful memories.
This combination of military responsibility and unresolved feelings is expected to show a different side of Yoon Kyun Sang's acting.
A production representative expressed confidence in his performance, stating, "Yoon Kyun Sang, who has brought unique personalities to life in every project, will portray Wang Mu's complex emotions, from his calm judgment as a battlefield commander to the inner feelings of a man carrying a painful love."
The upcoming drama is written by Jung Hyun Min and directed by Jung Dae Yoon, with Celltrion Entertainment and SLL handling production.
With his noticeable physical transformation and emotionally layered character, Yoon Kyun Sang is drawing attention ahead of his long-awaited return to the small screen.
Sacred Jewel is scheduled to premiere on JTBC on December 5.
