Jin Seon Kyu is drawing attention for the preparation behind his Japanese-language performance in tvN’s "100 Days of Deception".
The actor made a strong first impression in the drama’s October 10 premiere as Sato Shinichi, the newly appointed vice governor-general in 1932 Gyeongseong.
Along with his intense portrayal of the character, viewers particularly noticed how naturally he delivered his Japanese dialogue.
Some Japanese viewers reportedly praised his pronunciation and intonation after the premiere, with one commenting, *“His Japanese was so fluent that I was shocked. I think his pronunciation and intonation are among the best I’ve heard in a Korean drama.”*
Another viewer said, *“His lines were so clear that I was surprised. It was at a level where I could understand him without subtitles.”*
According to reports, Jin Seon Kyu spent around two months in Japan specifically to prepare for the role.
He is said to have studied and practiced his script for about seven hours a day while working closely with Japanese-language teachers.
Rather than simply memorizing his lines, the actor reportedly focused on pronunciation, intonation, the natural flow of each sentence, and expressions appropriate for the historical setting.
One Japanese viewer praised that effort, saying, *“Beyond simply sounding natural in Japanese, I respect the way he seriously approached the role and the historical background.”*
Jin Seon Kyu’s preparation has become one of the most talked-about details from the early response to *100 Days of Deception*, with viewers recognizing the extensive language work behind his performance.
