Kim Jaejoong drew attention after his longtime friend, Japanese actor and singer Shirota Yu, jokingly questioned whether he might be keeping his dating life private.
On the September 3 episode of KBS2’s Fun-Staurant, viewers got a look at Jaejoong’s life in Tokyo as he invited Shirota Yu to his home for the first time.
Introducing his guest, Jaejoong explained that they had been friends for around 15 years and praised Shirota Yu for working across dramas, historical productions, films, music, and musicals.
After arriving, Shirota Yu complimented Jaejoong’s home, saying, “Your place is really beautiful. It’s impressive.” He then jokingly added, “Jaejoong, you’ve made it. When you’re not at your place in Japan, let me sleep here,” making everyone laugh.
Jaejoong prepared dakgalbi for his friend after Shirota Yu shared his love for Korean food. After tasting the dish, Shirota Yu said, “It’s really delicious. It has just the right amount of spice.”
The conversation later turned to marriage and relationships. Shirota Yu shared that he had once thought about marriage but said those thoughts became less important to him in his late 30s. He also revealed, “I haven’t dated for about six years.”
He then turned the question toward Jaejoong and casually asked, “I haven’t heard anything about your dating life lately. Are you hiding it?”
The unexpected question appeared to catch Jaejoong off guard, creating a playful moment between the two longtime friends.
However, the exchange was presented as friendly teasing during the variety show, and Jaejoong did not confirm that he is currently in a relationship.
