Lee Yeon has addressed the online rumors claiming she was spotted on a “date” with IU, explaining that the situation was much more casual than some fans assumed.
During an interview on August 19, Lee Yeon was asked about reports circulating online that she and IU had been seen together in Seochon.
She laughed and said, “I saw that too. IU has so many international fans, so stories about IU and me being spotted on a date were even spreading overseas.”
Lee Yeon then explained what actually happened that day.
She said, “IU, Yoo Su Bin, and I had plans to eat together. IU and I met first and had coffee, and we were walking to the restaurant where Yoo Su Bin was waiting.”
She added, “I knew someone was taking pictures of us from behind, but I didn’t expect it to spread as a dating sighting.”
The actress also revealed that fans have continued to joke about her chemistry with IU after the two recently appeared together in a photoshoot.
Lee Yeon shared, “I’ve seen a lot of fans jokingly pairing me with IU because they think we look good together.”
She even recalled an amusing encounter at an independent film event.
“One fan came up to me and whispered, ‘Are you dating IU?’ I just laughed.”
According to Lee Yeon, IU also jokingly blamed her for the rumors.
She said, “IU tells me, ‘It’s because of you.’ Now we’ve decided to just enjoy it. In the end, it means people have a positive impression of both of us, so we’re going to enjoy it.”
Meanwhile, Lee Yeon stars as Dong Joo in the upcoming film The Journey to Gyeongju, a family revenge story centered on four women who set out on a journey after years of waiting following a painful loss.
The Journey to Gyeongju is scheduled to premiere on August 26.
