Seo In Guk admits memorizing scripts is still difficult after nearly 15 years of acting

Seo In Guk has revealed that even after nearly 15 years as an actor, memorizing lines is still one of the most difficult parts of his job.

While discussing his tvN drama See You At Work Tomorrow, Seo In Guk opened up about his acting routine and the challenges he still faces despite years of experience.

He said, “I have my own routine. I think I’ve been acting for about 15 years now, but even now, memorizing lines is difficult for me.”

Seo In Guk joked that one reason he enjoyed playing Kang Si Woo in See You At Work Tomorrow Again! was that the character did not always have lengthy dialogue.

He said, “There were several things I liked about playing the character, but one of them was that he didn’t have that many lines. Physically, that honestly made me happy.”

According to Seo In Guk, scenes with long dialogue require much more preparation and can make him feel nervous.

He recalled having previous scenes where he had to deliver long briefings or explain a character’s entire background.

“There was a scene with a very long briefing, and another where I had to talk about the character’s childhood and the life he had lived. I kept memorizing that scene for several days,” he explained.

Seo In Guk also shared the method he uses to remember difficult lines.

Instead of trying to memorize everything at once, he repeatedly reviews the script in short intervals.

He said, “You shouldn’t keep staring at it continuously. I look at it once, do something else for a while, then look at it again. I heard that your brain starts remembering it that way.”

He added that he always checks his lines before sleeping.

“Even if I don’t have enough time to look at it many times, I always read it once before going to bed. I heard your brain reviews those memories while you sleep,” he said.

Seo In Guk also checks the script again after waking up and continues reviewing it while preparing for filming.

Beyond memorizing dialogue, the actor said See You At Work Tomorrow also changed the way he approaches emotional acting.

He described Kang Si Woo as different from many of his previous characters because he often holds back his emotions and patiently supports the people around him.

Seo In Guk said, “I learned a lot. I think Kang Si Woo will stay with me for a long time.”

After nearly 15 years of acting, Seo In Guk’s comments showed that experience has not completely removed the challenges of the job. Instead, he has developed his own routine to manage difficult scripts while continuing to learn from each new role.
