G-Dragon has been officially appointed as a promotional ambassador for the 48th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, marking another major step in his global activities.
The BIGBANG member attended the opening ceremony at BEXCO in Busan on July 19, where he received his appointment certificate from the Korea Heritage Service.
The international meeting is being hosted in South Korea for the first time since the country joined the UNESCO World Heritage Convention. Delegates from around the world gathered to discuss the preservation of World Heritage sites, new heritage listings, and future policies.
During his speech, G-Dragon emphasized that protecting cultural heritage is connected to creating a more peaceful future.
“Protecting heritage is not only about preserving the past,” he said. “It is also about creating peace for the future.”
Speaking about Busan, G-Dragon described the city as a place that transformed “the scars of war into peace and hope.” He added, “We are beginning a new promise to protect World Heritage together.”
The artist also promised to use his influence to support heritage sites facing threats from conflict and the climate crisis.
“Art has the power to move people’s hearts, and when those feelings come together, they can change the world,” he said. “As an artist, I will contribute to protecting World Heritage sites that are at risk of disappearing.”
G-Dragon’s JUSPEACE Foundation has also launched the “HERITAGE IN PEACE” campaign to raise support for the UNESCO World Heritage Fund. Donations collected through the campaign will be delivered to the fund through the foundation.
UNESCO Director General Khaled El Enany thanked G-Dragon for supporting the campaign, describing heritage as “a living force” that continues to bring energy to culture.
G-Dragon concluded his speech by expressing hope that the message beginning in Busan would connect people worldwide through peace.
“I hope the small feelings that begin here in Busan will grow into a great space of peace connecting the entire world,” he said.
