Late actor Song Young Kyu is gaining attention for his final performance in Netflix’s “Teach You a Lesson”.
Released on June 5, “Teach You a Lesson” follows the Teacher Rights Protection Bureau, a fictional organization created to protect Korea’s education system from students, teachers, and parents who cross the line. The series stars Kim Mu Yeol, Lee Sung Min, Jin Ki Joo, and Pyo Ji Hoon.
Song Young Kyu appears in episode 1 as Ryu Gwang Pil, a powerful lawmaker and presidential candidate.
His character is also the father of Ryu Joon Hyung, a student who uses his father’s influence to control Daehan High School.
In the story, Ryu Gwang Pil tries to use his power when his son’s actions are in danger of being exposed by the Teacher Rights Protection Bureau. Song Young Kyu was praised for strongly portraying a corrupt politician who misuses his authority.
“Teach You a Lesson” completed filming last year and became Song Young Kyu’s final work. The actor passed away on August 4 last year, 10 days after being sent to prosecution over a drunk driving case.
Now, 10 months after his passing, viewers are paying attention to his last appearance. Although his screen time is short, Song Young Kyu leaves a heavy presence in the series.
