Shin Ha Kyun and Heo Sung Tae began an unexpected partnership in MBC’s “Fifties Professionals.”
Episode 5 of the Friday Saturday drama, which aired on June 5, focused on Jung Ho Myung, played by Shin Ha Kyun, and Kang Beom Ryong, played by Heo Sung Tae, as they found themselves chasing the same target while trying to find Prosecutor Kang, played by Kim Shin Rok.
The episode recorded a peak rating of 5.8%, with 5.0% in the metropolitan area and 4.8% nationwide, according to Nielsen Korea.
In the episode, Prosecutor Kang became the target of Yoo In Gu’s group after she started looking into the connection between Yoo In Gu and Han Kyung Wook. She managed to escape, but the chase took a shocking turn when her car fell into a river.
Jung Ho Myung then went looking for Prosecutor Kang after receiving a call from Team Leader Jo. During his search, he ran into Kang Beom Ryong at a cafe. Although the two were suspicious of each other at first, they decided to work together because they both needed to find Prosecutor Kang.
Kang Beom Ryong said, “That woman you were just looking for. That was Prosecutor Kang, right? You are chasing Prosecutor Kang, right? I also need to meet Prosecutor Kang. Let’s go together.” With help from Ma Gong Bok, they tracked the vehicle route and began their unexpected cooperation.
The episode also showed more of Jung Ho Myung’s personal struggles. His wife, Kwon Oh Ran, grew suspicious of his repeated outings and lies, asking, “What exactly are you hiding?” However, Jung Ho Myung could not reveal his real mission, deepening the conflict at home.
Jung Ho Myung also faced the reality of the 10 years that had passed since his National Intelligence Service days. He admitted, “I just feel a little anxious these days. I’m worried that the next 10 years might pass by in a flash too,” showing his fear about time, family, and the mission.
By the end of the episode, Prosecutor Kang regained consciousness, while Jung Ho Myung visited the convenience store where Kang Beom Ryong and Ma Gong Bok were staying. The tense ending raised curiosity over whether the former enemies will begin a real partnership.
