Park Ji Hoon is gaining attention for his funny and unexpected grandmother transformation in TVING’s “The Legend of Kitchen Soldier”.
Episode 7 of the TVING original series was released on both TVING and tvN on June 1. In the episode, Kang Sung Jae, played by Park Ji Hoon, once again used his sincere cooking to change the heart of Corporal Kim Kwan Chul, played by Kang Ha Kyung, who had been difficult to deal with.
The drama is also continuing its strong run in both streaming and TV ratings. “The Legend of Kitchen Soldier” ranked No. 1 in paid subscriber contribution for three weeks in a row and also ranked No. 1 in daily subscription contribution for episode 7.
On tvN, episode 7 recorded an average nationwide rating of 7.2% and a peak of 8.9%. In the Seoul metropolitan area, it reached an average of 8.1% and a peak of 9.6%, taking No. 1 in its time slot among cable and general programming channels.
In the latest episode, Kang Sung Jae faced a new challenge after Yoon Dong Hyun, played by Lee Hong Nae, went on leave. With the kitchen short on help, Park Jae Young, played by Yoon Kyung Ho, assigned Kim Kwan Chul to the kitchen.
However, Kim Kwan Chul’s arrival quickly changed the mood of the cafeteria, making things harder for Kang Sung Jae. The story then revealed that Kim Kwan Chul also had a past as a cook soldier and carried an emotional wound related to his grandmother.
To win Kim Kwan Chul over, Kang Sung Jae tried to recreate a “grandmother style hamburger” connected to Kim Kwan Chul’s memories. Park Ji Hoon’s grandmother makeup added a humorous touch to the emotional scene, while the meal helped soften Kim Kwan Chul’s heart and brought him closer to Kang Sung Jae’s side.
Episode 8, released on June 2, will follow a new crisis as a typhoon hits Gangrim outpost and puts the cafeteria in trouble. With the unit isolated and ingredients running low, Kang Sung Jae will face another difficult test as a cook soldier.
