TWICE member Jeongyeon became emotional as she opened up about how much her older sister, actress Gong Seung Yeon, helped her during one of the most difficult periods of her life.
On May 17, tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block” released a short preview video featuring Gong Seung Yeon. In the clip, Jeongyeon appeared through a video message and shared her honest feelings for her sister.
Jeongyeon looked back on the time when she had to stop her activities in 2020 due to health issues. She shared that she depended on Gong Seung Yeon a lot during that period, especially because she was also struggling mentally.
She said, “I relied on my sister a lot. It was a time when I was having a hard time mentally. My sister held on to me and said, ‘Something seems wrong with your body. I think you need to go to the hospital,’ and that was how I found out the exact diagnosis.”
Jeongyeon then revealed that she was diagnosed with Cushing’s syndrome, a condition she had never heard of before.
She expressed deep gratitude to Gong Seung Yeon, saying, “Cushing was a word I had never heard before. Thanks to my sister, I was able to receive treatment well and become healthy, so I was very thankful.”
The TWICE member also became tearful as she praised her sister’s recent success. She said, “I am so happy that my sister is so popular and doing so well these days. I am so thankful that you became my real older sister. I am getting emotional. Thank you, and I am sorry.”
Gong Seung Yeon also cried while watching Jeongyeon’s message. She admitted that she did not expect her younger sister to say those words and jokingly added, “I am sorry for hitting you,” while wiping away her tears.
Gong Seung Yeon then shared how worried she was when Jeongyeon was going through her illness. She said she felt anxious leaving her alone and often visited her even when Jeongyeon was living in the dorm. She also let Jeongyeon stay at her home because she wanted to keep her close.
She explained, “Jeongyeon was having such a hard time, and I felt very anxious about leaving her alone. I just wanted to keep her by my side, so I told her, ‘Let’s live together.’”
Gong Seung Yeon ended by showing strong love and trust for her sister. She said, “I am so thankful that she overcame it. When I hear people say that my younger sister has become so pretty and that she has regained her best days, I feel so happy too. ”
She added, “My younger sister is someone who does everything properly no matter what she does, and she is good at it, so I have no doubt in her.”
