Singer G-Dragon is at the center of discussion after his performance at the ‘2025 MAMA Awards’ sparked a live performance controversy, and he recently shared behind-the-scenes details of the stage.
His agency, Galaxy Corporation, explained on December 1, “At the MAMA Awards held on November 29 at Hong Kong Kai Tak Stadium, G-Dragon originally planned to perform ‘Drama’ and ‘Heartbreaker.’”
They added, “However, after learning about a fire disaster at a local apartment, he completely changed his planned set and chose to perform ‘Untitled (2025).’”
The agency added, “This decision came from genuine concern for those affected. He appeared in all-black outfits with black ribbons as a sign of mourning. Instead of a flashy stage, he conveyed his condolences to the people of Hong Kong with silence and restrained movements.”
Despite this explanation, many fans see it as an indirect response to the live performance controversy. During the ceremony, G-Dragon faced criticism for showing unstable vocal skills, yet he still won four awards, including ‘Artist of the Year,’ which left some fans feeling mixed emotions about the moment.
Earlier in March, his concert at Goyang Sports Complex also drew criticism for performances that did not meet expectations, raising concerns about his health and live performance stability.
Amid the ongoing discussion, G-Dragon commented on a short-form video of his MAMA performance posted on the official awards SNS with a thumbs-down emoji and ellipsis, which fans interpreted as him acknowledging his own dissatisfaction with the stage.
Looking ahead, G-Dragon will have another opportunity to impress fans. From December 12 to 14, he will hold encore concerts of his world tour Webermensch at Seoul Gocheok Sky Dome.
After touring 16 cities including Japan, Taiwan, Australia, the U.S., and France, fans are closely watching to see if he can end the tour on a high note in Korea.
With only about 10 days until the concerts, attention is on whether G-Dragon can redeem his live performance and silence the controversy once and for all.
