G-Dragon has finally opened up about the emotional toll he faced after being falsely accused of drug use last year.
During his appearance on MBC’s Jae Myung Sohn’s Questions 3, the BIGBANG star spoke honestly about the dark period in his life and how he struggled to cope while staying silent.
“About a year before I released POWER, I was involved in a case,” he shared. “Even as someone watching from the outside, it was something I wouldn’t have wanted to know about. But as the person at the center of it, I had no place to express my thoughts or feelings — even though I was the victim.”
In October 2023, G-Dragon was accused of drug use, but he voluntarily went to the police and strongly maintained his innocence. The investigation ended with no charges filed, clearing his name completely.
Despite that, he revealed the emotional impact was deep. “Personally, I felt empty and meaningless,” he said. “I didn’t want to hold a press conference or speak publicly. It was painful, but I told myself it was part of the process. I even asked myself if I should just retire and live as an ordinary person.”
But it was music that helped him move forward. “When I started working on my album, I used my experiences as inspiration. When I began writing the first song, it felt like I had finally found my voice again,” he explained.
He also reflected on the power of the media and how it influenced his 2023 track POWER. “I hope there won’t be any more cases like this. When you look at the root of the problem, it often goes back to the media. That’s why one of the key messages of POWER was my satire of media influence,” he said.
Lastly, G-Dragon shared that the incident inspired him to help others facing similar hardships. “If something like this happens again, there should be a group that can stand by and support the person involved. That’s why I established the Just Peace Foundation, to promote drug prevention and provide support,” he explained.
With honesty and resilience, G-Dragon turned one of his lowest moments into a message of strength — proving that even through silence, he never lost his true voice.
