G-Dragon and Byeon Woo Seok are among the major names being recognized at this year’s Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards, one of the most prestigious government events celebrating outstanding figures in entertainment.
On October 15, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that the awards ceremony will take place at the National Theater on October 22 and 23, honoring not only artists who shine on stage but also the production staff who work behind the scenes.
This year, G-Dragon (Kwon Ji Yong) will receive the Ok Gwan Cultural Medal, one of the nation’s highest cultural honors. The medal is awarded to individuals who have made major contributions to the global spread of Korean culture.
G-Dragon is being recognized for his influence in leading the Korean Wave and for raising the international value of K-pop and Korean entertainment.
The Ok Gwan Cultural Medal will also be awarded to veteran voice actor Bae Han Sung, known as the “voice of a thousand tones,” and the late comedian Jeon Yoo Sung, who helped shape the golden age of Korean comedy.
Other top cultural medals include the Eun Gwan Medal, which will go to actress Kim Hae Sook, and the Bo Gwan Medal, awarded to actors Lee Byung Hun and Jung Dong Hwan for their outstanding artistic contributions.
Meanwhile, rising actor Byeon Woo Seok, known for his breakout role in Lovely Runner, will receive the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Commendation alongside Go Yoon Jung, Ji Chang Wook, and Chu Young Woo.
Top idol groups RIIZE, LE SSERAFIM, (G)I-DLE, and ZEROBASEONE are also being honored in the same category for their remarkable achievements in K-pop.
The Presidential Commendation will go to several leading stars, including Lee Min Ho, Kim Mi Kyung, Lee Jung Eun, TVXQ, Rosé (BLACKPINK), Seventeen, and voice actor Kim Eun Young.
A representative from the ministry shared, “This year’s event carries the theme of a single festival that shines both on stage and behind it. We hope to celebrate the success of K-content while recognizing the efforts of the many people working behind the scenes.”
The upcoming ceremony is expected to be a star-studded celebration, spotlighting the talents and dedication of Korea’s most influential entertainers and creators.
