IU surprised fans with an unexpected end-of-summer gift.
On September 10 at 7 a.m. KST, IU dropped her digital single Bye, Summer on major music sites without any prior notice or promotions. She wanted it to feel like a special present for Uaena as summer fades into the cool breeze of autumn.
The track was first revealed during the 2024 IU HEREH WORLD TOUR CONCERT ENCORE: THE WINNING held at Seoul World Cup Stadium last year.

At that time, IU performed it live with her guitar, saying, “This summer felt especially long, but it was the best one because I spent it with you. It was filled with hot love, so I wanted to share this song.”
The stage became legendary when a drizzle stopped right as the song ended, making the performance feel like a scene from a movie.
Ever since then, fans have been asking for an official release, and IU finally granted their wish with this surprise drop.
Bye, Summer was written and composed by IU, with additional work by producer Seo Dong Hwan, who also worked on Love wins all. The refreshing band sound and IU’s lyrical voice capture the bittersweet mood of summer coming to an end. A lyric video was also released on her YouTube channel, showing a fairy tale–like story of a boy and girl enjoying summer before parting ways.
Meanwhile, IU continues to shine as an actress and singer. She recently won Best Actress and Popular Star Award at the 4th Blue Dragon Series Awards for her Netflix series You Have Done Well, which also took home the Grand Prize. She also received the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award at the 7th Newsis K-Wave Expo.
IU will meet fans at the 2025 IU FAN MEET-UP ‘Bye, Summer’ at KSPO DOME on September 13–14. She is also currently busy filming her upcoming drama 21st Century Daegunbuin.
Fans can now stream Bye, Summer on all major music sites and IU’s official YouTube channel.
